Maja Bosnic is an economist who is at the forefront of innovative thinking in the fields of public and corporate finance, where she integrates gender equality considerations into the realm of budget decision-making. She advocates for breaking away from conventional approaches in one of the most inflexible and technical areas: the preparation of public and corporate budgets.
Her primary discovery is that when we incorporate gender equality into the equation, we not only make progress toward gender parity but also enhance the quality of budgets, making them more transparent, equitable, and efficient. Maja addresses the challenges of eliminating bias in algorithms and AI solutions, ensuring that ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) practices are truly transformative, where gender equality becomes an integral part of product development, human resources management, and community engagement. In essence, she guides companies toward a more people-centric approach.
As John Neisbitt aptly said, “The most exciting breakthroughs of the 21st century will not occur because of technology but because of an expanded concept of what it means to be human.” Maja contributes to this vision by assisting companies and the public sector in ensuring that gender considerations are an inherent part of all decision-making processes.
After implementing this concept in her home country, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in collaboration with the UN, Maja has extended her work to countries worldwide, aiding governments and companies in achieving greater budgetary equity. Notably, she led a prominent global project on gender budgeting, funded by the Swedish government and implemented in Ukraine from 2014 to 2021. Over the years, she has collaborated with various organizations, including the International Monetary Fund at its training centers across the globe, the World Bank in Indonesia, UN Women in Morocco, and the Zambian Parliament, to ensure the integration of gender considerations into financial decisions at all levels.
