Anu Bradford is the Henry L. Moses Professor of Law and International Organization at Columbia Law School, where she also serves as the director of Columbia’s European Legal Studies Center and a Senior Scholar at the Jerome A. Chazen Institute for Global Business at Columbia Business School. A leading authority on European Union law, digital regulation, and international trade policy, Bradford is recognized globally for her work on the governance of artificial intelligence, competition policy, and the geopolitics of technology.
Bradford is the author of the acclaimed The Brussels Effect: How the European Union Rules the World (2020), which Foreign Affairs named one of the best books of the year. The book has significantly influenced public discourse on the EU’s global regulatory power. Princeton University’s Andrew Moravcsik described it as “the single most important book on Europe’s global influence to appear in a decade.”
Her most recent book, Digital Empires: The Global Battle to Regulate Technology (2023), examines the competing visions of the United States, China, and Europe in the race to regulate the digital economy and artificial intelligence. It was recognized as one of the best books of 2023 by the Financial Times and awarded the 2024 Stein Rokkan Prize for Comparative Social Science Research.
Bradford’s insights and research have been featured in leading international publications, including The Economist, Foreign Affairs, The Financial Times, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. She is a sought-after keynote speaker and commentator on the global digital economy, artificial intelligence, and international regulatory frameworks.
Originally from Finland, Bradford earned her doctorate and LL.M. degrees from Harvard Law School and a law degree from the University of Helsinki. She now resides in New York City with her husband and three children.
