Performance Enhancement – Reflect, Learn & Improve with Jamil Qureshi

In the fast-paced world of leadership, the quest for remarkable results is relentless. To truly stand out, leaders must harness the power of performance-enhancing psychology. We turn to Jamil Qureshi, the leading expert in performance enhancing psychology to shed light on the path to excellence.

How can leaders make use of performance-enhancing psychology in their everyday lives to truly stand out?

“I believe you can’t trust the future to anyone who champions the past. The future demands us to be different. That advantage lies in our ability to step outside of habitual thinking. I help leaders create new perspectives to obtain new possibilities and opportunities. To do differently, we need to think differently.”

In essence, leaders should challenge the status quo, embracing change as an opportunity rather than a threat. By cultivating innovative thinking and fostering a culture of adaptability, they can set themselves apart.

“There are so many companies with mission statements, but so very few on a mission.”

What’s the secret ingredient that both athletes and corporate leaders need to succeed?

“The two main areas are becoming more purposeful and understanding that failure is part payment towards success. Firstly, purpose maximisation will always drive profit maximisation in business. Passion is a significant multiplier of human performance. There are so many companies with mission statements, but so very few on a mission. Purpose allows us to focus our energy on the areas that create most impact and value.

“We need to create cultures where people can fail, it doesn’t make them a failure.”

Secondly, a lesson from sport is understanding that failure is part payment towards success. The price of success is always paid in full and advance. In business, I believe that those who experiment the most will win. So businesses need to become more comfortable with failure. We need to create cultures where people can fail, it doesn’t make them a failure. People can make mistakes, it doesn’t make them a mistake, and this creates a learning culture.”

Executives, leaders and athletes alike must find their purpose and harness their passion to excel. Additionally, embracing failure as a stepping stone to success is crucial in both arenas.

Can you recall a tough moment when you wondered if a leader could possibly overcome the challenge they found themselves in? What’s the key to navigating through such challenges with grace and success?

“Lots! Adversity and opportunity are the same. I find that leaders who overcome challenges, more often than not, are motivated by what they want to achieve not by what they want to avoid. That way there can be a simplicity of focus. The things that matter most, should never be at the mercy of things that matter least.” Leaders must maintain a clear vision of their goals, allowing them to gracefully navigate through challenges without losing sight of their ultimate objectives.

What’s the most powerful advice you’d give to leaders? What single thing can make a huge difference in how they lead?

“Be open-minded. The immigrant always sees things that the citizen is blind to. Think like an outsider and realise that success will now come, not from knowing more, but knowing differently.”

“performance enhancement is not just about individual achievement but about inspiring and empowering others to reach their full potential”

How can leaders reach their best performance and motivate others to do the same?

  • Energy management, not time management: Prioritize self-care and maintain high energy levels to lead effectively and inspire others.
  • Blame looks backward, responsibility looks forward: Encourage a forward-thinking mindset and take responsibility for outcomes.
  • Think in terms of partnerships and networks: Build strong, collaborative networks to leverage collective knowledge and drive success.

In conclusion, performance enhancement is not just about individual achievement but about inspiring and empowering others to reach their full potential, creating a ripple effect of success throughout an organization.
